Delicious Mapping

To begin our unit on Canadian Government we jump started things with an afternoon of mapping.

First we made some sugar cookie dough:

Then we painstakingly cut out our maps of Canada:

While our maps were baking we spent some time filling out the details
on paper maps of Canada:

Then we decorated our maps and enjoyed eating them!

Skating Champ

Bekah has completed the entire "Learn to Skate" program
at the Surrey Parks and Recreation Center!

Groovy Grammar

We just completed Bravewriter's class "Groovy Grammar" and had a blast!

We "collected" words and combined them in delightful and unusual combinations:

king singing
brass grass
merry vocabulary
dainty feather
pious protection
pupil gloated

We created "Fictionaries" (a dictionary of made up words) to play around with what nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs are.

daintscape (n) a depiction of a small section of landscape, such as a diorarama or small painting

dunker (n) a cookie used to dunk in hot beverages.
Sally loved the chocolate dunkers she ate with her tea.

enviroputer (n) a computer developed from recycled computer parts
The company had to collect many old computer parts to make their new enviroputer.

gramiction (n) a book about grammar in the form of a dictionary

sprintim (v) swimming so hard it is like you are sprinting
"Anna, you were really sprintimming! With that sort of swimming I think you'll make it to the nationals!" said her coach

willorrific (adj) describes a person who will do anything to have his or her own way
Willorrific Sergeant Wilfred said "No! I'll slaughter the lot of you if you don't do what I say!"

Lastly we explored the poem "Jabberwocky" by Lewis Carroll and then created our own original poem to continue the "Jabberwocky" adventure.  What fun!

The Tumtum Tree
by the Stokes

So rested he by the tumtum tree
When to his flacious shock
Out from the skies with glibdey glee
There schploge a Jubjub hawk.

He takes the vorpal sword in hand
To greet his deadly foe.
“Waholt thy sword and let me land!
I bring innews from Low.”

“The Jabberwock is close at hand,
Just beyond the gymangree!”
With that she left in full command.
So waited he by the tumtum tree.
